To Play The Game - SOUS Diecut Challenge *Word Art*

Hello there!

This week's Stuck On U Sketches challenge is to use "Word Art". I am loving the latest trend of using brush fonts for titles, so I was excited to try it out on a layout.

Papers: Fancy Pants Design; Font: Manus; Embellishments: Studio Calico, Fancy Pants,
American Crafts, SEI; Punches: EK Success, Unknown paperclip

I wanted an element to balance the large photo I had to scrap, so I used the font "Manus" to cut the long quote. I was surprised at how well it cut on my Cricut (with SCAL). Since it's cut from the thinner Fancy Pants paper, the machine had a better go of it. I'm not sure how well it would cut through thicker cardstock, though. :(

To give even more visual weight to the quote, I added lots of small bits and pieces and tried to keep a visual triangle on the page with some larger clusters at the top of the photo, bottom and middle of the quote.

So, let's see what kind of word art you can come up with! Be sure to share it on the SOUS blog and you will have a chance to win a $20 gift certificate to Creative Embellishments!

Nesting for an Empty Nest - SOUS Diecut Challenge *House*

Hey there! Long time no see!

I had to take a few weeks off from my blog because I was in the midst of home renovations. Which turned out to be a very lucky coincidence because the theme for this week's Stuck On U Sketches die cut challenge was to use a house!

Paper: Jillibean Soup, Fancy Pants Designs, Studio Calico; Cricut Cart: Going Places;
Embellishments: Jillibean Soup, Echo Park, My Minds Eye, Fancy Pants; Misc: Studio Calico
date stamp, unknown feathers, unknown floss, Fancy Pants button, Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher

Since my photos were quite busy, I wanted to keep my layout quite simple. And I thought about doing something a bit fancier with the house (I toyed with the idea of using my corrugator, cutting it from chipboard, etc), but in the end, I liked the simple little house beside the journaling. The file is from Going Places, but I didn't like the door in the image. So, using Design Studio, I covered it up with a rectangle from the same cartridge and added a little rectangle for a window. Then I stretched it out to fit the journaling. Easy peasy!

So now it's your turn!  Upload your creation to the SOUS blog using a handmade diecut of a house and you will be entered to win a wonderful prize by this month's sponsor Creative Embellishments!
