These Clowns Rock

Hi there!

Today, I am sharing a very simple layout that goes with my previous Canal Days Circus layout. I don't do too many masculine pages, anymore.  But, I am really happy with the way this turned out considering there is a lot of pink in the papers..

The papers are from the Maggie Holmes Carousel collection with a few stickers and the "You are Wonderful" ephemera piece.  The small alphas in the title are very old Prima Marketing fabric stickers. The large letters for the title are some old Tim Holtz Grungeboard that I misted black.  The chipboard camera is from Maggie Holmes Bloom, the XOXO from Heidi Swapp and the wood veneer "You're a Peach" is from 1 Canoe 2.

I cut out the three banners in the top right of the layout from the packaging from the small Prima alphas. I love it when packaging can be re-purposed for a layout.

Adding the bold pops of black helps make the page more masculine and  the doodled border around all the pieces of paper ties it all together.

Thanks for looking!

Let's Go

Hi there!

Life just keeps getting in the way and I have not had much time to scrap, never mind blog. Today, I'm sharing a layout I made for International Scrapbook Day.  That was May 4th!!!

This page was for a Paper Issues NSD challenge to use a large title. I used one of Paper Issues free cut files for the Let's Go and backed it with Echo Park Summer Fun and Paige Evans Pick Me Up papers.  The background paper is from Pink Fresh Studios (LOVE THIS PAPER!) and then embellished with more Echo Park and Pick Me Up embellishments.

The layout is the title page for a new vacation album for a trip we took to Cabo in 2016.  I usually start my travel albums with an airport or airplane photo.  But, with all the people in our group, I forgot to take one. ;)  So, I made two 4"x4" photo collages using PicStitch. I will reprint the photos again within the album, but I like how the photos are a tease for what's in the album.

I have cleaned up my scraproom (that's how I found this layout LOL).  I am ready to scrap this weekend.  Fingers crossed that I have more to share next weekend.

Canal Days Circus

Hi there!

It's been a while.  I took a small break from scrapping.  Life was pretty busy and I just wasn't feeling it. But, I'm back at it and what better way to start scrapping than to make a layout with parade photos!

When I saw the release of the Crate Paper Carousel collection last year, I knew it would be perfect for my parade photos from 2017.  I bought a few patterned papers and some embellishments and stashed them until now.  I think it was the perfect collection for these photos.

The big top paper was fussy cut from the original paper and I backed the "tops" with some of the pink paper. I coloured the flags with my Prisma coloured pencil to match the layout. Then I mounted it onto a piece of cardstock that was misted with Mr. Huey's mist sprayed through a cloud stencil. It's difficult to see, but in real life it gives a bit of texture to the page.

The "picture frames" for the second page were also fussy cut from a piece of paper from the Bloom collection.  The page was then decorated with diecuts and stickers from Carousel and enamel dots from Echo Park.

I just love these pages. And the photos.  And the girls in the photos.
Happy Canal Days!

International Scrapbooking Day 2018!

Hi there!

Happy International Scrapbooking Day!  Or weekend! Or even week!

I love participating in all the online challenges that websites and stores come up with for this weekend. This year, I used challenges from Paper Issues and Shimelle Laine's Facebook pages.

The first challenge is a combined one using Paper Issues' "Tools of the Trade" and Shimelle's "Use words over a floral".

The supplies for this page are from Pink Paislee Pick Me Up.  The cut file is from Paige Evans and I backed it with strips from the papers. Then, I used my sewing machine to add some stitching along some of the cut lines.
I wanted the egg to have a place to sit, so using my fringe scissors, I cut some "basket" grass and using the smooshing technique, I distressed the paper with Distress Oxides and gesso. The embellishments are also from the Pick Me Up collection, and the word "love" is from One Canoe Two.

For my second layout, I used the Paper Issues challenge of "S.P.R.I.N.G.". That is to use something from each of the letters in the word spring.

For the challenge I used a Stencil, a Paper clip, Ribbon, Ink, Nuvo Drops and Gold accents.

This is also made using the Pick Me Up collection.  I love how this collection can be made to look differently by how you use it!

If you are a scrapbooker, I hope you had a chance to celebrate International Scrapbooking Day.  But, it's never too late to play along with the challenges.  It's a fantastic way to be inspired.  Thanks Paper Issues and Shimelle!

Scrapshotz April Kit - Project share #2

Hi there!

I'm excited to be sharing my second set of projects made with the Scrapshotz April Kit featuring 1 Canoe 2 Twilight.

This month the Design Team is using the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine April Sketch for inspiration.  Here is my take on the sketch.

I changed it up a bit by using five photos instead of three, but other than that, I stuck pretty closely to the sketch.  The large flower die cut really balances out the five photos and draws your attention to the title. All the other embellishments are from the kit, except the word stickers which are from Pink Paislee Pick Me Up.

The kit includes the matching stamp set from the Twilight collection and for my second project, I wanted to make a one layer card with it.

I started with a piece of 4 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of white cardstock and my Distress Oxide inks in various colours. I stamped the flowers and leaves in a random pattern, then used my diecutter and a stitched rectangle die to cut it down.  I then mounted it on a piece of pink cardstock and then on a white card base. The sentiment was stamped with an Altenew phrase stamp and some rose gold embossing powder.  To finish it all off, I sprinkled it with Nuvo Crystal Drops.

Be sure to check out the complete April kit in the store.

Scrapshotz April Kit - Projects #1

Hi there!

Today, I am sharing two layouts made with the beautiful Scrapshotz April Kit featuring 1 Canoe 2 Twilight.  Oh, my!  These papers are just gorgeous!!

The kit includes a specialty water colour paper, and that was the one I had to start with. I will say that there is a bit of a learning curve on this paper, but I am so happy with the effect. Unlike most water colour, this paper has some kind of coating on it.  I tried to use the technique of adding water first to a section and then add the watercolour paint.  However, it would just pool and not sink in.  I figured out that it works best just using a small amount of watercolour paint and no extra water.  I don't have very fancy paints (just Michael's brand), so that might have been the problem.  And it was difficult to keep the paint from covering the gold resist areas.  So, after hours of painting, this is the hot mess I got.

I was in deep now, so I kept going.  Using a very small paint brush and water, I cleaned up the resist areas. It was painstaking.  LOL! But it worked like a charm.  Once it was all dry, I fussy cut the entire design from the white background and mounted it on a piece of the patterned paper.

The flower was a lot of embellishment already, so I just added a few of the die cut embellishments included in the kit. The butterfly is fussy cut from one of the cut apart sheets. The alpha title is made from Pink Paislee Pick Me Up Thickers and mini tile stickers from my stash. I added some black splatterssequins and some Stickles to finish everything off.

I was pretty spent working for hours on the first layout, so my next page needed to be quick. That's when the large print paper comes in handy.  I have to admit that I think this paper is so beautiful, I was tempted to just put in in a frame and use it as art.  ;)

The nice thing about using a paper like this, is that you don't have to make the page too complicated.  I didn't want to hide it with a bunch of "stuff". The photo is mounted on some patterned paper and cardstock and embellished with some of the diecuts.  The little wood veneer fireflies are so darn cute!! I added some gold Heidi Shine and some Nuvo drops from the kit to tie in the "fireflies" from the grass area on the paper, to the cluster at the top.  I used a few word strips from the March kit to finish everything off.

I just love the projects I made with this collection.  Be sure to check out the April kit in the Scrapshotz store for all the details.

We (heart) this place

Hi there!

Here is the last page for our Cuban Vacation album!  Woohoo!  And ironically, when this post goes up, we will be on a new vacation to the Dominican Republic.  HA!

Recently, I took Shimelle Laine's online scrapping class, Clear the Desk.  I love all things Shimelle and this layout was inspired by one of her pages.

Once again, I used Crate Paper Oasis collection, but the anchor papers are a very old Fancy Pants Anchors Away paper. I really liked the navy blue with the aqua and green papers.  This page is pretty simple, but I was trying to use up some embellishments from the Oasis Collection and get stuff on the page and stored in my stash.

Hanging out in Room 2012

Hi there!

It's been a while! I took a little break from scrapping to do some house renovations. I finally had a chance to sit at my desk, took out my photos and ...... nothing.  No inspiration.  No mojo.  Luckily, I still had this Creative Scrapbooker Magazine February Sketch on my desk and it saved the day!

88EE6C46-D49F-4F7C-A2FF-4E9864AB5EED.jpeg

I am almost finished my vacation album and I want to use up the Crate Paper Oasis collection that I used through most of my album.  These scraps were on my desk, so I decided to cut 2"x2" squares and sewed them to the piece of aqua cardstock in a quilt-like pattern.  The page was embellished with more Oasis ephemera and chipboard pieces.  In my stash was the very old American Crafts "Home Sweet Home" diecut.  I love it when I can find a place to use a really old supply.

I love how using a sketch can jump start my creativity. I didn't stick to the sketch closely, but it was a great jumping off place.

Baby, It's Cold Outside!

Hi there!

If you have followed my blog for a while, you know I love Shimelle Laine's classes.  Her recent class is Clear The Desk.  I was too busy to sign up when the class started, so I'm a few lessons behind, but here is my first project from the class.

The theory behind the class is to make your own kits from older supplies and use them up.  Since I was already starting late, and I had the Graphic 45 Sunkissed collection from Scrapshotz still on my desk, I just went to work with what I had. Everything is from Graphic 45 except the enamel dots are from Shimelle and My Mind's Eye. The title is cut from a Paper Issues cut file.

I just love how this page turned out. Hopefully, I will be back with the next page from Shimelle's class tomorrow!

Towel Art Conversation

Hi there!

Today I have a layout made from the Progressively Better Challenge on the Paper Issues Facebook Page.  This is always a fun challenge to take part in.  I've created some of my favourite layouts using this challenge.

There are a lot of different collections here: Maggie Holmes Carousel, Shine and Bloom. I found the swan paper in the Carousel collection and the swan chipboard sticker from the Bloom collection.  If I didn't use those now, when could I use them?  ;)

The hibiscus die cuts is a free cutfile from Paper Issues. I cut them from a piece of Carousel paper, and used my Wink of Stella to put shimmer on the centre of each flower.

One step of the challenge was to use a 12"x1" piece of paper.  I used that paper to  make the rosette.  Such a pain to make, but so cute in the end.  I thought it suited the subject of the page since it was folding and tucking.  LOL!

Roam If You Want To

Hi there!

I'm coming into the home stretch for my Cuba Vacation Album. Usually, I run out of ideas by now, but this page came together so easily and I just love it!

The papers are from the 6x6 Oasis Collection, as are most of the embellishments. There are a few stickers from other Crate Paper collections. The clouds are a Paper Issues free cut file and the background is sprayed and splattered with Mister Huey's and Heidi Swapp mists.

The wooden "Roam" is from Dollarama and I've had it in my stash for years. The stamps are also from  Oasis.

I channeled the B-52's for this title and the song gets stuck in my head every time I see it.  :)

Roam if you want to.... Roam around the world.....

December Daily 2017

Hi there!

I can't believe that I am sharing my completed December Daily album for 2017 on January 7th.  Not too shabby since I didn't start working on my album until December 27th!

This bones for this album were started in October when I created it for Scrapshotz.com.  You can see how I made the album here.

I didn't buy any supplies for my album, this year. Goodness knows I had plenty of stash to do more than one album.  ;)  Most of the supplies are from Shimelle Laine, Simple Stories and Kaisercraft.

Here are a few of my favourite pages.

To see the complete album, I created a Flipagram.  The video is so fun!

I love doing this album. It was pretty moving to watch my grown children and some of our friends flipping through all the albums I have done through the years. It really is worth all the work.
